“Bikers are the ones who like freedom to their best!” Motorcycles are the vehicles which offer a greater sense of freedom and openness than any other vehicle. Being more fuel efficient than the cars, bikes are more preferred by people as a cost effective mode of transportation. However, it will not be wrong mentioning that motorcycle riders have a great chance of serious accidents and sustaining severe injuries in motorcycle accident. Every day we come across the road accidents, injury and death on roads. Though motorcycle accidents might not always be frequent, but these bike accidents are most commonly serious and hazardous that can not only cause serious damage in injuries but also can take away the life.
Dangers are associated with riding motorcycles and statistics do show that there are more dangers to life following bike accident than car accident. Let us look for statistics of motorcycle accidents in Malaysia. From the Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine, they study about fatal injuries among motorcyclists in Klang Valley. Of the 755 participant recruited, there were 177 fatal, where 142 (80.2%) were categorised as instantaneous death and 578 non-fatal cases. From Statistic Book Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya, vehicle fatal cases form 2007-2016 in Malaysia was recorded motorcycle has the highest cases compared to other vehicle. Motorcycle rider reach 41,155 (60.8%). The highest cases was in Selangor, second place were in Johor and Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia Transport Statistics showed that the numbers of registered motorcycles in Malaysia has increased four-fold compared to last 20 years. Moreover, the number of deaths and casualities among motorcyclists are extremely high to car drivers. A motorcycle accident can result in a range of injuries, from the minor to the life-threatening and fatal.
