It also aims to do the following to support the relationship between the carer and the individual while the carer offers flexible and reliable support, to promote effective communication between carers and the person receiving support, to work together with the family members of the person receiving support, and to promote the independence and rights of the person receiving support.

It is important that these values are implemented in social care work so as to provide utmost quality service and support to each individual that have a unique set of circumstances. “Dignity in Care” was the campaign from which person-centred approaches were developed in order to ensure that each individual’s dignity is respected across all areas of health and social care. According to Paul Burstow, the Minister of State for Care Services, “Compassion, kindness and respect are the every essence of dignified care. We must make sure these principles are at the heart of everything we do.”
